Medical emergencies
If you are in need of urgent medical care:
- call 111 and ask for an ambulance
- You can also visit either Christchurch Hospital Emergency Department or
- Bealey Avenue 24 hr Surgery (corner Bealey Ave and Colombo St)
Banks

ANZ - you can set up your bank account online with the ANZ prior to arriving in NZ - click here
These banks all have branches around town and in most shopping malls.
Inland Revenue (IRD)
For anyone working in New Zealand you need to have an IRD number. It is much easier to obtain an IRD number once you are in New Zealand, you can download the forms and complete them ready to take into the IRD office with you.
The IRD office in Christchurch is situated at the bottom of Durham St, close to Brougham Street.
